Good sleep is essential. Quality is far superior then quantity. Someone who receives five hours of quality sleep and feels relaxed, refreshed and rejuvenated when they wake up is going to be far better off than the person who had eight hours of sleep but was tossing and turning and is still tired the next day. Sleep is the time when our bodies repair, recharge and ready ourselves for the day that lies ahead. The key to getting a good night sleep is to have a routine and follow it every night. Here are my “Fab Five”; five tips you can do to insure you get a better night sleep.
1) Get adjusted by a Chiropractor! A properly functioning nervous system is vital. If your nervous system is not functioning optimally, you will have a difficult time falling asleep, staying asleep and are more likely to toss and turn at night. A poorly functioning nervous system along with poor sleep will contribute to your body’s inability to heal and recover from everyday stresses, thereby increasing the likelihood of you becoming sick.
2) Go to sleep at the same time each night and wake up at the same time
3) Eating healthy and not more than two hours before bed
4) Prepare for sleep by winding down: Whether it is saying prayers, meditation, breathing exercises or stretching. Take five minutes to relax and de-stress. If you are stressed or upset about something chances are you are going to be up all night thinking about it.
5) Sleep on your side or back. If you sleep on your side make sure you have a pillow between your legs to help take stress off of your hips and pelvis. Use only one pillow, preferably a cervical pillow or one that is designed ergonomically. If you sleep on your stomach, I guarantee at some point you are going to wake up with a stiff neck and when that happens, I’ll will see you in my office.
